Westgate

For Westgate Shopping City in Zagreb, SIRRAH projekt was tasked with producing execution-design drawings for the complete development. With a stated area of 230,000 square metres, it was one of the largest projects in the practice’s portfolio and required a documentation strategy capable of managing an exceptional amount of architectural, structural and technical information.

A shopping complex of this scale combines extensive retail areas with public circulation, service corridors, loading and logistics, parking interfaces, technical plant, fire-safety systems and a wide range of tenant requirements. The execution-design role therefore depended on the precise coordination of many repeated elements alongside unique spaces and complex junctions. Drawings had to remain consistent across a large and irregular building while also being sufficiently detailed for contractors and specialist suppliers to use on site.

The project’s architecture is expressed through a broad, low complex with large-span interiors and distinctive exterior volumes. The façades and entrances establish a recognisable public identity, while the internal organisation must guide very large numbers of visitors through retail, leisure and support areas. Behind the public spaces, an equally extensive service network enables deliveries, waste handling, maintenance and emergency access.

Completed in 2011 with a stated investment of €200 million, Westgate demonstrates the practice’s capacity for large-scale technical delivery. The project is significant not merely because of its size, but because execution documentation had to transform a complex commercial programme into a coordinated and buildable set of information. It highlights the importance of disciplined standards, multidisciplinary coordination and drawing clarity when working on developments whose scale exceeds that of most conventional buildings.
