Hotel Materra

Located in Čepin, near Osijek, Hotel Materra is a 10,000 m² wellness and wholeness hotel completed in 2023 and set within the open agricultural landscape of Slavonia. Rooted in the idea of returning to nature, the project establishes a strong relationship with the land and the restorative qualities of its surroundings. The building’s clear, angular volumes and clay-toned façade create a distinctive presence in the flat landscape while remaining connected to the colour and character of the local soil.

SIRRAH projekt was responsible for the main and execution design development and the complete interior design of the hotel. The interior concept deliberately softens the sharp geometry of the architecture, translating it into a sequence of calm, tactile and welcoming spaces. Natural oak flooring and furniture, earthy colours, terracotta accents, soft textiles and extensive planting form a restrained palette inspired by the Slavonian landscape. Rounded furniture and carefully selected lighting introduce intimacy, while large glazed openings maintain a continuous visual connection with the fields and bring daylight deep into the building.

Guest rooms, public areas, the restaurant and the 1,500 m² wellness centre are conceived as parts of a single spatial narrative. The wellness area, including a panoramic indoor pool, uses minimal detailing and warm natural materials to frame views across the surrounding plain. Solar energy and an extensive geothermal heating and cooling system support the hotel’s ambition to operate responsibly within its environment.

The result is a contemporary hospitality project in which architecture, interior design and landscape create a coherent atmosphere of restrained luxury, comfort and connection to place. The interior received the BIG SEE Interior Design Award in 2024.
